Description
FOXA1 is a member of the forkhead box family of DNA-binding proteins. FOXA1 is a hepatocyte nuclear factor (specifically, HNF-3α) that is a transcriptional activator for liver-specific genes such as AFP and albumin. During embryonic development, FoxA1 is involved in the development of multiple endoderm-derived organs such as liver, pancreas, lung and prostate. In studying in vitro stem cell differentiation, FOXA1 expression is used as a marker for endoderm lineage cells.
