Background
Human Lin28, encoded by the LIN28 gene, is a cytoplasmic mRNA-binding protein with a cold shock domain and two CHCC-type zinc fingers. It has been shown to enhance translation of IGF-2 mRNA and to block processing of let-7 microRNA. Lin28 is a marker for undifferentiated embryonic stem cells, and Lin28 expression has been used to enhance the generation of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells.
