Description:
Nanog is a transcription factor that is critical for maintaining embryonic stem (ES) cell pluripotency and preventing differentiation to germ layers and mature cell lineages. The Nanog protein contains a conserved DNA-binding homeobox domain (AA 98-154). When transfected together with other key pluripotent factors such as OCT4 (Pou5F1) and SOX2, Nanog has been used to enhance the reprogramming of somatic cells into induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells.
