Description:
Nkx2.2 is a transcription factor belonging to NK-2 homeobox family. It is expressed in the ventral regions of the developing vertebrate central nervous system (CNS) and is therefore thought to play a role in the morphogenesis of the CNS. In addition, gene knockout experiments in mice have identified Nkx2.2 as a key regulator of insulin-producing beta-cell development in the pancreas. Nkx2.2 is used as a marker for pancreatic islet cell lineages when inducing differentiation of human stem cells.
