Description:
ZFP42, also commonly called REX1, is a member of the krueppel C2H2-type zinc finger protein family of transcription factors. The first 98 amino acids of the protein are unique; the downstream sequence contains four C2H2-type zinc finger regions. ZFP42 is highly expressed in embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells and is therefore used as a stem cell marker, but it can also be detected in several types of epidermal and epithelial cells. ZFP42 is thought to play a role in stem cell self-renewal and pluripotency.
